Two crew members kidnapped in Gulf Of Guinea, according to security company Drydad Global. Nationalities of the men are unsure , but believed to be Russian and Ukrainian. The Kidnapping took place in Equatorial Guinea.
Kidnapping occurred 2 nautical miles form Malabo on May 9th 2020. Pirates used ladders to board “Rio Mitong” name of the ship, from a speedboat. Nevertheless another incident followed several hours earlier. A taker 22 nautical miles off Cameroon.
A report of Maritime security company (Preasidium International ) concludes that three men got kidnapped. Two Russians and one from Equatorial Guinea.
Authorities are yet trying to find the cause of the incidents. Whether it was the same pirates is unsure . However there were reports of suspicious activity along the coastlines in the past few days.
As well as a report of a speedboat circling offshore.
Last months West Africa shown a decent decrease in piracy activity. However ships are now more worried about crew members rather than items. A new era of piracy is coming , where they kidnap for ransom. West Africa known for “ransom” where crew members are far more vulnerable than the items onboard.
