Most Piracy occurs in Venezuelas, Suriname’s and Guyana’s coasts. Since 2013 Venezuela lost about 50% of their economy . When instability occurs in a country where political and economical is not capable of holding the country , piracy starts to evolve. A perfect example would be Somalia.

In 2017 there were 71 incidents in South America and the Caribbean and most of those incidents happened on anchored yachts. Piracy in South America is different than piracy in Africa and Asia. While Africa and Asia are mostly criminal organisations in South America. Crimes believed to run by ex corrupted political officials that guide these pirates in South America.

Authorities found 3 bodies , while the others remain missing Reuters agency reported.

Officials of Suriname and Guyana confirmed that they have worked against piracy in the region. Maritime security was more stable as the 2 countries cooperated. However causing a big impact on the economy of Suriname as many fisherman are in fear of returning to sea. Insight Crime has called Venezuela “criminal chaos”. Insight Crime is a non profit organisation studying organised crime in South America. As mentioned above , crimes are cruel and not low profile.

Concluding

In the 21st century , international authorities (European Union) took actions against piracy. To stop the growth of piracy in Africa and the Southern Gulf of Aden. All these regions are affected by social, economic and governmental instability in the region.

Where governmental, social and economic instability occurs , rises the chance of piracy after all that is the case in South America. Specifically speaking Suriname has economic problems, Venezuela is in crisis and no sign of Colombia leading to a lack of security . Nonetheless the authorities of South America do not have resources to prevent piracy. “Pirates Of The Caribbean” has returned, history is repeating itself. As they say sources are our clues, history is our mystery.
