On Thursday 30th of April 2020 at 05:15am in the morning 6.2nm northwest of Indonesia along the Straits Of Malacca a tanker by the name “Chem Ranger” was sailing from Singapore to Ulsan, Republic Of Korea.
An attempted robbery took place when three pirates have been spotted in the tankers engine room. In spite the fact that 3 pirates were onboard the crew managed to be alarmed of the intruders.
The Master of the tanker without any reconsideration turned the “Chem Ranger” tanker back to the ports of Singapore for further inspection and too overcome any unpredictable scenarios.
Authorities have been informed of the attempted robbery , however no clues or evidence was found of any intruders onboard. Thankfully nothing was stolen and nobody was hurt.
Facts: The Strait of Malacca is known as one of the world’s piracy hotspots. Between 2001 and 2007, the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) has recorded 258 pirate attacks in the Malacca Strait and surrounding waters, including more than 200 sailors held hostage and 8 killed.
