Guyana and others are suffering from piracy due to Venezuela’s collapse. South America’s Piracy is increasing at high speed, however no action is taken against battling piracy in the coastlines of South America. South America is turning into Somalia of 3 years ago . Countries as Trinidad and Guyana do not have the resources to protect their fisherman in the oceans against piracy. In other words as Singapore, Indonesia and Philippine authorities do in the Strait Of Malacca. South American countries are suffering from unsafe coastlines. Concluding a decrease in goods and necessary products.

Incidents

Suriname and Guyana paired together forming a combat against piracy in their region. Despite these combats very little changed. In 2017, April a group of pirates attacked 4 Guyanese fishing boats. According to sources only 5 of the 20 fisherman survived. Others tortured , attacked with machetes and thrown tied handed overboard.

According to several fisherman , they have noticed an increase in Venezuelan crime groups. Resulting in piracy, smuggling weapons and drugs. Roodal Moonilal a lawmaker from Trinidad stated that it remind him of Africa 3 years ago. When Somalian Pirates were aggressively active in their coastal region, causing threats to ships.

Incidents in South America are not low level categories. They are extremely violent, causing injuries and even deaths. Suriname, Trinidad and Guyana are already facing maritime piracy.

Venezuela’s Cause of the Collapse

In the late 1980s ,the fishing industry was big in South America making Venezuela one of the largest producers of tuna worldwide. However by time state corruption increased causing poor management in the fishing industry. This was the main reasons that piracy occurred . As there were no companies on the dock making life difficult for those living on Caribbean coastlines. Piracy became an opportunity for them to earn foreign money and equipment. Many in Venezuela say that all attacks led in South America are run by corrupt Venezuelan officials. Venezuela’s president Nicolas Maduro effortlessly trying to maintain power but left by many of his men including police officers and officials leaving their posts.

Unemployment rate in Venezuelas in 2013 was 30%. Prices for goods rose to 13,000%. By 2020 Venezuelas will reach 10 percent.

Are Countries fighting against Piracy?

Suriname , Guyana and Trinidad need deployment of naval vessels. After that they can focus on fighting against piracy. Piracy will increase in the near future if no funding will take place. International investment is not familiar yet within the region. While the navies of neighbouring countries neighbouring Venezuela are not powered there will be a big threat to piracy.

Corruption and Crime are 2 main reasons why piracy occurs in areas. However where poverty and corruption speaks war forms. The corruption throughout Venezuela had many side effects on countries neighbouring it. However the problem lies beyond that , international authorities do not focus on maritime piracy. Authorities focus on refugees entering illegally rather than piracy. As mentioned above , this causes Guyana and others to be at a greater maritime risk. If international authorities do not engage , small coastal countries will continue to suffer . Yet 40% of these coastal countries depend on fishery , resulting in an economical dis balance.

In conclusion the Caribbean coast and Atlantic coast became unstable because of cartels and drug trafficking. However resources are too low for police forces to be placed . Therefore many passages have opened for piracy.
