The Whole Truth About Somalia Maritime Pirates.

Pirates in Somalia are the most powerful criminal gang in the world. Since 2005, sea routes from the Persian Gulf and Asian countries to the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal have become unsafe.

Money Pirates Earn.

Pirates often behave well with hostages, hoping that governments will intervene and buy their crews and ships for a large ransom. Maritime robbery is now the largest source of income for Somali pirates. Most of the hijacked ships earned them more than $10,000 each. Large ships for their size were bought for an average of $2 million. They can catch about $200 million a year. It is an astronomical amount for a country where a fifth of the population is on the verge of starvation.

Real pirate money goes to someone else. People who wear suits have secretaries and go to the office. People who will never see this prison and have never been to the stinking crime city of Bossaso. The idea that the Somali pirates are taking revenge on those who plunder their sea just fantasies that cover up an ugly reality. At best, the rich Bossaso, making millions out of chaos and lawlessness, throw some pieces from their table to the poor. These guys were fighting just to survive. They took guns into their hands and got into the boat, because it was their only way to earn bread. The operations are now quite extensive. In Somalia there is a kind of intricate “Stock Exchange” where local financiers can buy shares of the upcoming raids.

Who Are They?

Initially, the pirates called themselves “Coast Guard” and declared that their task was to protect the territorial integrity of Somalia. It was before the formation of a new government. The collapse of Somalia’s rule in 1991 heralded the opening of access to the country’s maritime zone and ships from all over the land began to seize territory with the sole purpose of plundering Somalia’s marine resources. Ordinary fishermen began to engage in piracy off the coast of Somalia, defending their territory.

There Are Generally Three Categories Of Pirates.
  • The first is a fisherman. They are valued for their nautical skills and knowledge in open waters.
  • The second is ex-policemen. They previously served in either law enforcement or military structures and have the skills to handle and supply all types of weapons.
  • The third is technicians who work with technology such as satellite phones and satellite navigation systems.
Facts About Pirates.

Pirates typically climb onto ships using the ladders they carry with them. Moreover, they tend to use RPGs and small arms to intimidate ship crews. In this connection no foreign fishing vessel dares to fish in Somali waters and poor Somali fishermen now have the opportunity to earn a living from their fishing.

In addition, the money is possibly invested in the trade in khat, a soft drug that is very popular in the region. This is a stimulant drag, which means it speeds up the messages going between the brain and the body. Banned in many Western countries, khat is a flowering plant that has spread from West Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

Officially, the government says it is doing everything it can to end the robbery. However, due to the number of pirates in the region it is clear that they are in a special position here. One of the Somalian pirate Yam Abdullahi said that his team was sailing in speed boats, armed with AKs, RPGs and bazookas, and pulled everything on board the ship that came in their way. “There were five hundred people working for us, no less,” he said. “We rowed millions.”
